Russian Messenger MAX Rolls Out Enhanced User Protection Tools

The latest update to the Russian messaging platform MAX introduces new safety features aimed at combating spam, phishing, and harassment, while giving users more control over their privacy.

The Russian messenger app MAX has unveiled a set of new features designed to boost user safety. The update includes a “Report” button that allows users to quickly flag suspicious contacts or unwanted content. To report, users simply hold down on a message, select the option, specify a reason, and send it. According to the developers, moderators respond promptly to reports — tackling not only spam but also harassment, phishing attempts, and fraud — with the help of automated monitoring systems.

Another major addition is “Safe Mode,” which limits interactions with unknown users. In this mode, users can hide their profiles from phone-number search, block calls from strangers, and disable invitations to third-party group chats. Access to security settings is protected by a PIN code, while neural network–powered filters and continuous moderator oversight add extra layers of protection.

Alongside these safety upgrades, MAX continues to expand its footprint in both the public sector and the consumer market.
