Russian Regions Purchase Innovative Drones for Technical and Housing Inspections

High-Tech UAVs With Thermal Cameras Monitor Traffic, Buildings, and Infrastructure

In Russia’s Yaroslavl region, local authorities are purchasing a fleet of drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras to improve oversight of road safety, housing conditions, and public infrastructure. The regional government plans to allocate about 30 million rubles for the new equipment.

According to the official procurement documents, the Administrative, Technical, and State Housing Inspection will use the drones for a wide range of monitoring tasks. The UAVs must be capable of smooth, high-quality video recording, detailed aerial photography, and remote camera control, while operating at altitudes of up to 2.5 kilometers.

Smarter Oversight, Better Control

The inspection agency oversees maintenance of self-propelled machinery and amusement rides, housing safety, and licensing of property management companies. With the new drones, these functions are expected to become more efficient and technologically advanced.

Yaroslavl has already been using drones for forest fire monitoring and land-use inspections, and regional officials say the technology has proven its effectiveness. Now, the government plans to expand UAV use into additional sectors, from infrastructure audits to urban planning.

Across Russia, the trend toward digitizing state oversight is accelerating — with drones, AI, and smart sensors becoming key tools for improving safety, accountability, and resource management in public administration.
