Russia’s IT Sector Posts Nearly 28% Average Annual Growth Over Five Years

Fueled by demand for domestic software, Russia’s IT industry is growing fast — and doubling its contribution to national GDP.
Russia’s information technology sector is experiencing rapid expansion, with an average annual growth rate of nearly 28% over the past five years, according to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. During this period, the industry’s contribution to the country’s gross domestic product has also doubled.
Mishustin highlighted a strategic goal set by President Vladimir Putin: by 2030, 80% of domestic companies are expected to adopt Russian-made software, particularly for production and management operations.
“Companies are ramping up production of competitive software, and there’s clear demand for it,” Mishustin said. “Over the past five years, interest in domestic enterprise solutions has increased two to threefold. In some categories, sales have grown more than ten times — especially in database management systems and cloud infrastructure.”
