Scientist Yuri Chekhovich: “In Russia, AI Is Being Adopted Most Rapidly in the Humanities”
Developing strong, hands-on neural network skills is becoming essential for career growth and higher productivity in Russia’s job market.

In Russia, the number of job openings requiring AI skills increased by 30 percent in fall 2025 compared with the same period last year. Experts describe it as a “quiet revolution” in the labor market. Yuri Chekhovich, head of Laboratory No. 42 “Intelligent Data Analysis” at the Institute of Control Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences and founder of an academic integrity verification service, shared his perspective on this HR trend with IT RUSSIA.
A Functional Assistant
According to the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, there is a paradox: people with technical degrees are often more cautious about neural networks because they understand how they work. At the same time, humanities specialists who deal with information, meaning, and narrative adopt AI quickly and find themselves in a favorable position.
He emphasizes that AI has already become a functional assistant—it helps with editing, translation, idea generation, and even serves as a “conversation partner” for testing hypotheses. However, the key future skill is critical thinking and mandatory fact-checking.
