Volgograd Researchers Develop AI System to Diagnose Respiratory Diseases
The system can distinguish between common respiratory infections and flu and provide treatment recommendations.

Researchers at Volgograd State Medical University, together with colleagues from the Islamic Azad University Karaj and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Social Technologies, have developed a neural network for diagnosing respiratory diseases. The system analyzes multiple data streams simultaneously to determine whether a patient has a common viral respiratory infection or influenza—conditions with highly similar symptoms that can be difficult to distinguish.
The system outperformed comparable solutions and enables treatment to begin at the earliest stages of illness.
The platform also includes an optical character recognition module, allowing it to analyze data from medical records and images of laboratory test results. This significantly speeds up workflows by eliminating the need for manual data entry.
