4G Connectivity Arrives on Russia’s Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island Near China Border

The rollout of high-speed mobile coverage on this geopolitically strategic island aims to boost trade ties with Asia and spur tourism growth.
Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island, located near Khabarovsk at the junction of the Amur and Ussuri rivers, has received 4G mobile coverage as part of a major infrastructure push. The island holds strategic value not only for Russia's connectivity with Asian countries but also as a budding tourism destination.
The island, divided between Russia and China, became the focus of joint development efforts last year following a bilateral agreement. The introduction of 4G and other infrastructure upgrades was a key discussion point at the Eastern Economic Forum in 2024.
Improved connectivity is expected to simplify construction and logistics, attract business investment, and enhance the region’s appeal to tourists from both Russia and China. There are also plans to expand telecommunications access to nearby transport corridors and adjoining territories.
