A Platform for Living: Sber Unveils Its Next Wave of Digital Services

Sber is preparing to showcase new AI-driven consumer services, signaling its evolution from a major bank into one of Russia’s most influential technology ecosystems

Sber’s Expanding Consumer Ecosystem

Ahead of its December 10 Investor Day—promoted as “Made by Sber”—the company plans to present updated AI-powered services and a broader vision for its ecosystem strategy. Sber has moved far beyond the boundaries of a traditional financial institution, integrating artificial intelligence into daily-life services that millions of Russians now use through SberBank Online.

The “For Living” section within the app has become a consolidated hub for shopping, food delivery, travel booking, medical appointments, and smart-home tools. Specialized modules such as Home, Auto, and Loved Ones Nearby demonstrate Sber’s ambition to cover nearly every routine aspect of modern life.

AI plays a crucial role in this expansion: a tax assistant will simplify deductions, AI financial advisors will help users plan income and investments, and Sber’s GigaChat—now embedded into smart devices—enables voice-controlled interactions such as changing TV channels without a remote.

AI as the Core Layer of a New Digital Model

Rather than offering isolated features, Sber is pursuing systemic transformation through technology. GigaChat, launched in 2023, is rapidly evolving from a chatbot into the backbone of the company’s voice-interaction layer. This signals a broader trend: AI is no longer an enhancement but the foundation of a redesigned user experience.

“We are gradually moving toward an economy centered around people. Technology will be the driving force behind this shift. We recognized this trend early and began transforming the company. It is far from simple.”

Investments in machine learning, big-data analytics, biometrics, and digital-health technologies are shaping Russia’s emerging AI infrastructure. Many of Sber’s products are also designed with export potential in mind. For example, next-generation ATMs—equipped with health-monitoring tools—and AI advisory systems could appeal to markets in the Global South seeking integrated and localized digital-service platforms.

Economic and Social Impact

For the Russian economy, Sber’s strategy produces a dual effect. First, it strengthens technological independence by developing domestic AI platforms at a time of global technology fragmentation. The company’s newest ATM software is developed entirely in-house; engineers have already filed 11 patent applications for its technical and design innovations.

Second, Sber accelerates the digitalization of daily life, raising digital literacy and expanding access to financial, medical, and household services. Consumers gain time savings, better accessibility, and personalized service, while Sber benefits from higher engagement and customer retention—critical advantages in a competitive market.

Sber as the Core of Russia’s Digital Future

By 2026–2027, Sber is expected to deepen its reach into digital health, insurance, smart‑home technologies, and education. Its ecosystem may expand into nearly every dimension of consumer life, positioning the company as the dominant “everyday digital platform” in Russia.

For the broader market, this represents the emergence of a new standard in which finance, technology, and daily services merge into a unified experience. It is a sign of a maturing digital‑economy model—and a reminder that one of the country’s largest institutions is actively redefining its role in society.
