Apple Faces Potential $540 Million Fine from EU Over App Store Practices

The European Commission is pressuring Apple to remove in-app transaction fees and comply fully with the Digital Markets Act—or face another massive fine.

Apple could face another significant penalty from the European Union over its App Store policies. According to EU officials, the tech giant is under investigation for failing to align its operations with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Back in 2023, Apple was fined €600 million for restricting in-app payments to its own system, forcing users to pay 15–30% more. In response, the company began allowing third-party payment platforms in March 2024. However, most transactions still carry Apple-imposed commissions.

Now, the European Commission is demanding the full elimination of these fees, insisting that Apple must offer users a genuine alternative. The company has been given one month to comply. If it fails to act, it could face an additional €500 million ($540 million) fine.
