Coffee Served by Robot: Moscow Metro Launches AI Barista at Busy Station

A six-axis robot barista is now brewing cappuccinos and lattes for passengers in the Russian capital—offering a glimpse of the future of public transport.
Passengers at Moscow’s Kurskaya metro station can now grab a cup of coffee from a robot. The fully automated barista takes orders, listens to preferences, and prepares drinks like caramel cappuccinos or sugar-free lattes—all without human involvement.
The new robot is part of a broader modernization program aimed at making the city’s transit system more high-tech and convenient. With over 1,500 vending machines already installed throughout the metro network, authorities saw an opportunity to level up with intelligent, contactless solutions.
This isn’t Moscow’s first robot barista: a similar model has already been installed at Nizhegorodskaya station. Robots are also popping up in shopping malls, cafés, and mobile kiosks, where they prepare not just coffee, but also ice cream and meals.
The trend addresses a major issue in the food service industry—staffing. Robots handle repetitive tasks with ease, saving businesses money and speeding up service for customers.
The machines are built by Moscow-based tech firm FIBBEE, which doubled its production of robotic solutions over the past year.
