“Digital Chronicle” of Tatarstan to Unite Cultural Heritage on One Platform
Kazan will host the launch of Russia’s first information system dedicated to protecting architectural landmarks and making their history more accessible.

On September 17–18, 2025, the international forum Kazan Digital Week will feature the conference “Heritage in Digital,” where participants will see the debut of the “Cultural Heritage of Tatarstan” information system.
The platform is a unified online database of all cultural heritage sites in the republic. Beyond telling the stories of historic buildings, it is designed to protect them. Integrated with the state urban development system, the database will automatically check new construction projects for compliance with heritage protection laws. It will also be open to historians, restorers, and anyone interested in historic architecture.
This initiative elevates Russia’s efforts in preserving cultural identity and fostering smart tourism. The professional community has already responded: specialists from the company Geoscan used aerial photography and 3D scanning to digitize UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Kizhi Pogost ensemble and St. Isaac’s Cathedral. Meanwhile, the “3D Heritage” portal, launched in 2025, has already brought together virtual copies of 27 unique monuments from Russia and abroad.
These projects highlight how modern technology can safeguard historical memory and national identity.
