Putin Calls Tech the Key to Russia’s Nuclear Future

On the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear program, Vladimir Putin framed advanced technology as the engine of its next big leap.
Russian President Vladimir Putin marked the 80th anniversary of his country’s nuclear industry with a visit to Sarov, a closed city long tied to atomic research. There, he met with physicists and stressed that new digital tools and cutting-edge technologies are rapidly expanding the sector’s potential.
Putin highlighted Rosatom — the state corporation founded in 2007 — as proof of that progress.
Russia, he reminded his audience, was the first nation to mass-produce Generation III+ nuclear reactors, considered the safest currently in operation. Work is now underway on Generation IV systems, a leap that could reshape global energy. Beyond nuclear power, Russian researchers have also assembled prototypes of quantum computers with massive computing capabilities.
Vladimir Putin also touched upon personnel training, including for further digital modernization of the industry.
