A welding robot has been deployed at the ZiO-Podolsk plant, part of the machine-building division of Rosatom, Atomenergomash, the company said on its Telegram channel.

The automated system manufactures supports for heat-exchange equipment used at nuclear power plants. The robot performs repetitive welding operations according to a preset program. By operating continuously, without weekends or downtime, it doubles labor productivity and significantly reduces the time required to clean welded seams.

Another Step Toward Automation

In 2026, the plant is scheduled to produce 164 supports for nuclear power plant heat-exchange equipment, with around 80 welds required for each unit. Completing this workload would take a human workforce roughly 16,000 hours. The welding robot can handle the same volume in just 4,000 hours.

Automating welding operations is one stage of a broader technical re-equipment program underway at the plant’s production site.
