Lost or Stolen Passports Can Be Declared Invalid Online
Citizens can use Russia’s Gosuslugi portal to report a lost or stolen passport and have it declared invalid.
The service is intended for cases involving lost or stolen passports. The ministry said the online process would help protect personal data from fraudsters. Applicants must provide details of the missing passport and describe the circumstances of its loss.
“Applicants must have a verified Gosuslugi account. Important: You cannot submit an application on behalf of another person,” Russia’s Interior Ministry migration service explained.
On the portal, applicants must open the service and select the reason for the request: loss or theft. If the passport was stolen, they must provide the details from the police notification slip, including its number, date and the Interior Ministry unit contacted. Applicants then select an Interior Ministry unit and submit the application. The service takes one day to process.
“An application cannot be withdrawn. Even if the passport is found, it will still be declared invalid,” the ministry emphasized.
