Russia Builds New Training Centers for Digital Technologies in Energy
To strengthen grid reliability, Russia is rolling out advanced IT-based emergency automation systems and creating specialized training centers to prepare the workforce.

A new classroom for training in state-of-the-art emergency automation has been launched at the Personnel Training Center of the System Operator’s Main Dispatch Center in Moscow. Here, employees working in relay protection and automation services are being trained to operate complex emergency automation systems within the national power grid.
The training program introduces the design and operation of systems used across Russia’s Unified Energy System. The classroom is equipped with cutting-edge microprocessor devices, including those designed for transmitting emergency signals and commands. A fragment of a highly automated substation has been recreated, integrating all terminals into a single information network. Each workstation provides remote access to every device.
Such training centers will expand across the country, allowing staff to practice hands-on skills with emergency automation systems, analyze and prevent common mistakes, and learn how to respond to technological failures. At the Moscow site alone, about 50 specialists are expected to complete the program by the end of the year. In addition to instructors, equipment manufacturers’ experts are also involved in the training process.
