Russia Launches AI-Detection Tool to Track How Students Use Chatbots

A new system doesn’t just flag AI-generated text — it reconstructs how a student interacted with neural networks while writing their paper.

A Russian tech company has unveiled Antiplagiat 2.0, a system that can detect and analyze the use of artificial intelligence in student work, according to a statement shared with Interfax. The technology goes beyond traditional plagiarism checks by monitoring the entire process of text creation — from the first draft to the final version.

Unlike standard detectors that simply identify AI-generated content, Antiplagiat 2.0 tracks how students engage with neural networks, recording their prompts and edits. If a student rewrites or modifies AI-generated text, the system still flags that section in its report.

Keeping Academic Integrity in the Age of AI

University officials in Russia say they don’t oppose students using AI — as long as it’s done responsibly. If a chatbot helps collect and analyze data while the student draws their own conclusions, it’s considered acceptable. But fully outsourcing academic writing to AI remains off-limits.

According to Evgeny Lukyanchikov, executive director of Antiplagiat, the share of student papers created with AI assistance rose from 16% to 23% over the past year. The new system, he says, will help maintain trust in academic achievement and establish clearer guidelines for how AI can ethically be used in education.

By 2026, the updated platform will be deployed across 50 Russian universities, with a nationwide rollout planned for the second half of the year — marking a significant step in redefining academic integrity for the AI era.
