Russia Launches Free Deepfake Detection Tool for Public Use

A new Russian deepfake detection service can verify the authenticity of any image — from social media photos to news visuals — in seconds, with no registration required.

A Public Deepfake Detector

Russia has introduced a free online deepfake detector capable of identifying whether an image was generated using artificial intelligence in just seconds.

The new tool, developed by Wildberries & Russ, was launched as an open beta version to help users verify the authenticity of digital visuals and combat misinformation. According to the company, the system’s recognition accuracy reaches up to 95%.

Verifying Digital Reality

The service enables anyone to instantly check the authenticity of an image — whether it’s a photo in the news, a customer review on an e-commerce platform, or a social media post. Verification takes only a few seconds and doesn’t require creating an account. By giving users the ability to independently confirm image authenticity, the system helps reduce the spread of manipulated content and online fraud.

Next Steps for Development

Following public testing, the company plans to enhance the platform’s functionality. Future versions will include analysis of audio, video, and text materials, enabling comprehensive verification of multimedia content.

Igor Somov, Head of Trust & Safety at RWB, emphasized the project’s role in strengthening digital trust: “In a world where the line between real and synthetic is blurring, such technologies are becoming essential for protecting users and businesses alike.”
