Russia Proposes a Nationwide Digital New Year Festival for Kids
A new initiative dubbed the CyberYolka aims to turn a classic holiday tradition into a modern, tech-driven event accessible to children across the country.

Russia may soon introduce a digital format for celebrating the New Year. The idea was proposed by Amir Khamitov, deputy chair of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports.
He emphasized that esports tournaments, robotics challenges, AI competitions, and digital quizzes are no longer just entertainment. These activities strengthen attention, logic, reaction speed, and engineering thinking. They show children that technology is not an abstraction but an exciting pathway into future careers.
A Digital Gift
For children, New Year can become associated not only with gifts and treats but also with personal achievement, teamwork, and new knowledge.
Digital formats are rapidly spreading across culture and the arts. Exhibitions using AI and virtual reality have become common even in smaller regions, and esports continues to gain popularity among Russian students.
