Russia to Debate AI in the Mining Industry
At the upcoming Digital Industrial Ural forum in Yekaterinburg, business, government, and academia will explore how artificial intelligence and robotics are reshaping mining—and what it means for technological independence.

On October 23, 2025, Yekaterinburg will host the large-scale forum “Digital Industrial Ural,” bringing together leading experts to tackle key challenges: achieving technological sovereignty and expanding the use of domestic IT solutions in the mining sector. The event is set to become a practical platform for dialogue between business, government, and science, aimed at strengthening the position of Russia’s mining industry under new economic conditions.
Participants will examine in detail how cutting-edge technologies are already transforming mines and quarries. The discussions will cover unmanned production sites, robotic machinery, artificial intelligence, and digital twins. Special attention will be given to successful Russian case studies—from early experiments to large-scale adoption.
Another focus will be strategic independence. A dedicated session will address partnerships with foreign suppliers, particularly with China, while avoiding the risk of technological dependence.
Experts will also spotlight the urgent need for workforce retraining. The adoption of new technologies demands both the reskilling of current professionals and the preparation of new specialists for the jobs of the future. Additionally, the forum will discuss compliance with critical information infrastructure requirements when using imported equipment.
