Russia Unveils AI-Powered System to Monitor Road Infrastructure

A new Russian system can instantly detect damaged road signs and faded markings using real-time data, artificial intelligence, and chatbots.
Russian engineers have developed an advanced monitoring system that evaluates the condition of road infrastructure in real time. The technology integrates data from urban street sensors, surveillance cameras, user reports submitted through chatbots and mobile apps, as well as information from dispatch and emergency services, according to Sitronics, the company behind the system.
Using artificial intelligence, the system identifies road sign deformations and damage, measures their tilt angles, and flags any misalignments with safety standards. It also locates road markings that are critically faded and in need of repainting. The gathered data is compiled into reports in PPTX, XLSX, and DOC formats and sent to maintenance services.
In addition, a Telegram-based notification tool alerts relevant departments to urgent tasks and detected issues.
This AI system not only addresses immediate infrastructure flaws but can also forecast potential hazards, making Russian roads safer and more efficient.
Russia has already seen AI technology used to tackle public issues: for instance, smart cameras now identify and fine citizens for littering, vandalism, or illegal parking on lawns.
