Russian Doctors Trained to Combat Cyberattacks on Hospitals

With medical tech becoming increasingly digital, Russia is teaching healthcare workers how to defend against cyberthreats.

Russia is ramping up cybersecurity training for healthcare professionals as hospitals and clinics become more reliant on digital systems.

At a recent conference in Arkhangelsk, titled 'Information Technology and Security for Critical Infrastructure,' doctors and medical staff learned how to detect cyberattacks and protect their institutions' IT infrastructure.

The training included hands-on exercises in identifying simulated cyber incidents, investigating their origins, and neutralizing system vulnerabilities. Participants successfully secured both operating systems and specialized medical software.

The push for cyber literacy reflects a broader shift in Russian healthcare, which increasingly uses advanced technology and artificial intelligence in surgery, diagnostics, and treatment. Examples include an AI platform that assists with kidney surgeries and an experimental calculator designed to predict post-surgical complications.

Experts stress that basic cybersecurity skills are now essential for doctors working in an environment where digital systems are intertwined with patient care.
