Russians May Soon Get a Digital Tool to Rate Government Officials
Lawmakers in Russia are discussing a proposal to let citizens rate the performance of government officials through the Gosuslugi portal, aiming to boost transparency and strengthen democratic institutions.

The initiative envisions giving every Russian citizen access to a digital tool for evaluating the work and competence of public officials. Currently, existing feedback mechanisms do not provide an objective picture of public attitudes toward officials at all levels, including members of parliament.
Under the proposal, the Gosuslugi portal would host an annual secret vote, with clear criteria developed to assess the effectiveness of officials from municipal leaders to regional governors and beyond. The voting process would be regulated by federal and regional by-laws, and the results would be published openly. Lawmakers stress that this is not about introducing artificial metrics of effectiveness.
