Russians See a Digital Revolution on the Horizon for Agriculture

Younger generations lead the charge toward a high-tech farming future

Russia’s agricultural sector could be on the cusp of a digital leap—and the public is ready for it. According to a national survey conducted by the NAFI research platform “Tet-a-Tvet,” nearly 1 in 10 Russians believe a full-fledged tech transformation of farming could arrive by 2030.

The study polled 6,903 respondents aged 14 and up, spanning every region in the country. 41% of participants say the agri-sector is already shifting from traditional methods toward a tech-forward model, with automation and smart systems increasingly embedded in daily operations.

The optimism skews young: 68% of people aged 14–24 predict a tech-dominant future for farming. Even among those over 55, nearly half (43%) agree.

And it’s not just speculation. Across Russia, drones are spraying crops and planting rice, autonomous combines are harvesting fields, and the agricultural robot “Vavilov” is diagnosing plant diseases with surgical precision.

AI is also transforming livestock farming. Smart platforms monitor pigs and cows via cameras, providing real-time insights on feeding schedules and animal health. One such system, “MOLOKO 2.0,” tracks how nutrition affects milk output, reproductive cycles, and even mood—alerting farmers to everything from optimal insemination timing to calving events.

The message is clear: For many Russians, tech is no longer a distant dream in agriculture—it’s already plowing the field.
