Russia’s Agricultural Sector Goes Fully Digital

The Russian Ministry of Agriculture is rolling out integrated information systems to streamline farm operations, improve market transparency, and cut red tape for producers.

At the AGRO-2025 exhibition in Chelyabinsk, Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture announced new steps in the country’s shift toward digital farming. Existing government-run platforms already help monitor product quality and reduce bureaucratic burdens, but the next phase focuses on integrating these systems for greater efficiency.

Mikhail Kopeikin, head of the Grain Traceability System Operations Department at the Agroanalytics Center, stressed that the effort is aimed at ensuring food safety and creating a more transparent marketplace.

Currently, farmers must navigate dozens of separate platforms, often entering the same data multiple times. The Ministry plans to consolidate these into unified sources of information. Special emphasis is being placed on integration with the National Commodity Exchange, where major grain transactions are reported, as well as with banking platforms such as “Svoe Fermerstvo,” which already shares seed-related data with producers.

Starting September 1, 2026, Russia will require the use of electronic waybills for agricultural transport. The Ministry is exploring ways to automate this process through the “Zerno” (Grain) system, which could significantly simplify logistics.

Another innovation is the launch of digital bulletin boards. In the “Seed Production” section, farmers can already find verified seed suppliers — a change that reduces reliance on middlemen and boosts producer profits.
