Russia’s Digital Ministry Launches Data Centers Registry List to Boost Transparency
The initiative aims to build a more transparent and accountable tech ecosystem while reinforcing trust in data services across the country.

Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development has unveiled plans for a voluntary registry of data centers. The project is designed to create a more transparent and responsible technological environment nationwide.
According to the ministry, the registry’s main goals are to systematize information about data centers and raise confidence in their services. The list will distinguish between centers offering commercial services and those operating exclusively for one or more affiliated organizations. Each data center will also be classified by reliability levels: highest, high, and medium. Inclusion in the registry will automatically mean the operator cannot host cryptocurrency mining infrastructure.
This initiative aligns with other legislative proposals from the Ministry of Digital Development, including efforts to protect citizens’ rights by limiting the collection of personal data to only what is strictly necessary.
