Russia’s National Messenger App MAX May Soon Let Users Earn Money
Lawmakers say monetization tools like paid channels and ad partnerships could turn the domestic app into a new income platform.

Russia’s homegrown messaging app MAX may soon become more than just a communication tool — it could turn into a platform for earning money. Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Andrey Svintsov said in an interview with Govorit Moskva radio that the app’s developers are exploring ways to introduce monetization options, including paid channels, subscriptions, and in-app advertising.
Building a Russian Digital Ecosystem
The move aligns with Russia’s broader effort to develop self-sufficient digital ecosystems. Recently, MAX launched a “Partner Platform”, enabling businesses to promote products and services directly within the app — a step toward transforming the messenger into a multifunctional digital hub.
As monetization features roll out, MAX could become a homegrown alternative to Western social media platforms — one that lets users communicate, create, and earn, all in a single secure environment.
