Russia’s National Messenger MAX Expands to Nine Countries

The homegrown app now connects users across the CIS, offering secure communication without relying on foreign platforms.

Russia’s national messaging app MAX is going international. The platform, originally launched for users in Russia and Belarus, is now available in nine countries across the Commonwealth of Independent States — including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, according to a company press release.

The expansion allows millions of users to stay in touch with friends, family, and colleagues abroad without turning to Western messaging services.

Built Around Trust and Security

To start chatting, users simply need to have each other’s phone numbers in their contact lists or share an invitation link. This setup, developers say, helps maintain a “trusted contacts” model and prevents spam or phishing attempts.

Registration is straightforward: users enter their phone number, confirm it via SMS, and can choose to sync contacts. For extra protection, MAX offers two-factor authentication under its Privacy settings.

The company says the expansion marks a key step toward building a unified digital ecosystem across the CIS, with shared standards for safety and usability.

With its growing user base and emphasis on privacy-first communication, MAX is emerging as a homegrown alternative to foreign messengers — one designed to keep conversations secure while connecting an entire region.
