Telemedicine Surges in Russia as Online Consultations Triple

Doctors in Russia are seeing a major uptick in virtual consultations, especially in the Moscow region, as patients embrace the convenience of online care.
Telemedicine is rapidly gaining traction across Russia. In the Moscow region alone, online consultations with medical professionals have tripled, according to the regional Health Ministry.
The service is available to all categories of patients—including adults, pregnant women, and children. With virtual visits, there’s no need to travel to a clinic. Patients can connect with doctors from home or any other convenient location.
During these appointments, physicians can renew electronic prescriptions for subsidized medications, review results from check-ups and tests, and adjust treatment plans if needed.
Since the beginning of the year nearly two million telemedicine consultations have been conducted in the Moscow region—three times more than in the same period last year.
The Health Ministry emphasized that a virtual appointment is only available after an initial in-person consultation. Patients can book these visits through the RT DoctorOnline app, the Gosuslugi government portal, or by calling 122.
Telemedicine is expanding nationwide. Doctors also use online tools to consult with peers on complex cases, significantly improving the quality of care.
