Ten Russian Research Centers Designated as World-Class Innovation Hubs

Russia grants elite status and long-term federal funding to research institutes driving next-gen technology.
Ten scientific centers across Russia have been granted world-class status following a national competition. The designation gives these institutes a mandate to lead the country’s development and deployment of breakthrough technologies.
Winners include a center for cybernetic medicine and neuroprosthetics, a modern agricultural plant breeding institute, and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Thermal Physics and Energy, among others. Applicants submitted proposals in all seven priority areas defined by a presidential decree on Russia’s scientific and technological development.
Each of the designated centers will receive annual federal subsidies of up to 320 million rubles (about $3.6 million USD), with grant amounts tailored to the scope of their development programs. These programs are expected to span at least six years.
Russia began awarding this elite designation to research institutions in 2020 as part of a broader strategy to bolster technological sovereignty and advance scientific progress.
