Russia to Fully Switch Oil and Gas Industry to Domestic Software by 2027

Russia’s upstream sector is moving toward digital sovereignty with a fully homegrown IT ecosystem and an industry-wide digital twin.
By 2027, Russia’s entire oil and gas production chain—from exploration to extraction—will run on domestic software, according to Alexander Dyukov, head of Gazprom Neft and director of the Industrial Competence Center for Oil, Gas, Petrochemicals, and Subsoil Use.
Currently, 84% of the sector’s IT infrastructure is already powered by Russian software, much of it leveraging digital twin technologies. This integrated digital approach is seen as adaptable to other industries and potentially exportable to allied countries.
Ongoing development continues under the CyberTEK project, which aims to build a digital twin of the entire Russian oil industry. This initiative is expected to boost system reliability, support the domestic market, and significantly increase export revenue.
Russia is rapidly developing an independent IT environment for its resource extraction sector—one that is free from reliance on foreign hardware and software.
