Rosatom Boosts Sovereign Tech Push with $4.8M Domestic Software Investment

A subsidiary of Russia’s nuclear agency is purchasing tens of thousands of software licenses as it transitions to a fully localized IT stack.

Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom is deepening its move toward digital sovereignty by adopting homegrown software solutions. According to CNews, Rosatom subsidiary Atomdata-Integration has launched a major procurement initiative, allocating 439 million rubles (around $4.8 million) for Russian-made IT products.

The tender covers over 43,000 software licenses for operating systems, infrastructure management tools, and enterprise email platforms. The backbone of the order includes Astra Linux (a secure, domestically developed OS), the ALD Pro administration suite, and RuPost Enterprise client licenses.

A key requirement is compatibility with Russian-made Baikal-M and Elbrus processors, as well as seamless integration with domestic antivirus tools and cryptographic protection systems. The specifications also call for modern functionality such as containerization, virtual environment support, and secure graphical interfaces for system administration.

Atomdata-Integration develops and deploys IT infrastructure for public sector and industrial use, and plays a central role in building Russia’s import-independent digital ecosystem.

Experts say investments like this not only reduce foreign tech dependence but also drive the growth of the domestic software industry.
