A high-tech simulator for the new Arktika-class nuclear icebreakers (Project 22220) has reached the finals of the prestigious Maritime Olympus award. Built by Evolution of Marine Digital Technologies company in St. Petersburg, it was ranked among the top ten maritime innovations after a tough selection from 72 entries. The project underscores Russia’s drive to master Arctic technology and its ambition to remain a leading maritime power.

The simulator advanced to the top ten in the Innovative Solution category. Its fate now rests with an expert jury that will soon pick the winner. For the developers, making the shortlist is already a major honor—and proof of the system’s importance for the Northern Sea Route.

According to the company’s press office, cited by IT-Russia, the simulator trains captains and crews of nuclear icebreakers and transport vessels. Mariners practice Arctic navigation: plotting safe courses, dodging hummocks, and managing resources under extreme conditions. It’s a core tool for ensuring year-round safety along the Northern Sea Route.

The system is flexible. It can be tailored to specific missions, and developers plan to integrate it with the Unified Digital Services Platform for the Northern Sea Route, giving access to critical data even from mobile devices.

The winners of the Maritime Olympus prize will be announced at the NEVA-2025 international exhibition in St. Petersburg this September—an event set to showcase Russia’s maritime technologies to the world.
