Moscow Builds a Unique Digital Ecosystem for Filmmakers
In just two years, the city’s MosKino platform has evolved into a full-scale industry hub, making it easier to shoot in Moscow and opening new financing opportunities for film projects.

Over the past two years, the MosKino digital platform has grown from a simple tool for approving shooting permits into a multifunctional hub for the film industry. Its latest features help production companies quickly secure locations, contractors, and financial support from the city.
Originally launched to streamline work with the city’s film commission, MosKino has recently rolled out major upgrades, according to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. The platform operates fully online and is open to filmmakers worldwide who want to shoot in Moscow. The most significant updates went live in 2025.
Among the new features is a virtual catalog of MosKino film park locations, allowing directors to remotely assess and select shooting sites. To connect producers with the right partners, the service now hosts a centralized directory of companies offering everything from scriptwriting to legal and accounting support.
A key addition is a funding application system. Through the platform, filmmakers can apply for reimbursements covering part of their expenses on international projects or grants for portraying Moscow in film. The first applications for support were submitted immediately after the Moscow International Film Week.
For audiences, the platform offers a unified section with all MosKino theaters. Viewers can now check schedules, addresses, and operating hours for every venue in one place.
The project has already attracted more than 1.2 million users. Beyond drawing major international productions, MosKino is strengthening the infrastructure of Russia’s film industry, turning Moscow into one of the world’s leading cinematic centers.
