Russian Telecom Turns to AI Voice Assistant to Combat Spam and Fraud

In a national rollout, telecom operator T2 is deploying an AI voice assistant to screen incoming calls, block fraud, and make mobile communication safer across Russia.
Telecom provider T2 has begun mass deployment of its new AI-powered 'Voice Assistant' service, which aims to protect users from robocalls, scams, and aggressive telemarketing. The system is already live in the cities of Pskov and Volgograd, and it will be available nationwide by the end of the year, according to Telecom Daily.
The Voice Assistant automatically answers calls when a user is unavailable or does not wish to engage with an unknown number. It screens incoming calls, blocks suspicious activity, and sends the user a transcript and audio recording of the interaction via the T2 app, SMS, or push notification.
Users can personalize the service by choosing from two voice options—'Mia' for a female voice or 'Mark' for a male voice—and can further configure preferences in the app’s 'My Protection' section.
The service is being rolled out automatically to all new and existing T2 customers. It is the first initiative of its kind in Russia to launch on this scale, aiming to boost digital hygiene and tackle the growing issue of phone fraud.
Andrey Borzov, T2’s Director of Product and Customer Experience, said the company’s goal is to simplify how users handle incoming calls while enhancing their security. “The service filters out unwanted calls in the background,” Borzov explained, “but makes sure that no important call gets missed.”
The initiative represents a significant step toward safer, more user-friendly communication for Russian mobile users.
