Finding an on-trend look without splurging on a personal stylist may soon become a reality in Russia. A new AI-powered fashion assistant called ‘Podborochka’ helps users build their wardrobe and shop smarter online — bringing personalized style advice straight to their smartphones.
Helping Users Define Their Style
Developed by Andrey Stroganov, a student at the Advanced Engineering School of Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR), ‘Podborochka’ is an AI-driven assistant designed for both mobile and web applications. Its goal is to serve as a personal stylist, helping users explore fashion combinations, refine their preferences, and discover clothing that fits their unique sense of style.
To use the platform, users register in the app and enter basic details — size, preferred colors, and style preferences. They can also upload photos of their own clothes or items they like. From there, the process is intuitive: a user might ask the AI, ‘Find me jeans that go with this red shirt.’ If the user uploads a photo of their existing jeans, ‘Podborochka’ tailors its search to find complementary items, analyzing styles and browsing verified online retailers.
The assistant then generates a complete look, shows it on a virtual mannequin, and provides direct purchase links. Its algorithm combines visual recognition with marketplace data, recommending items that not only fit the look but also align with the user’s budget and taste.
Free Testing Phase and Broader Vision
The project team is currently developing a prototype and plans to launch public testing in December. During the trial period, users will have free access to the AI assistant, with the final version expected in February. The developers see this as a step toward blending artificial intelligence with creative design, offering an accessible entry point into personalized fashion consulting.
By automating outfit selection, ‘Podborochka’ aims to save users time while fostering self-expression. The assistant will also share insights on current trends and color combinations, delivering a tailor-made experience for each user.
