Breakthrough into the Future: Rosatom Launches "Digital Lesson" in Omsk

Rosatom, together with the government of the Omsk region, is rolling out a regional “Digital Lesson” to give schoolchildren and university students their first practical introduction to quantum computing and the materials of the future. The program aims to build a talent pipeline, linking schools and universities with the engineering traditions of local industries.

A Federal Project

“Digital Lesson” is a nationwide educational initiative carried out by the Russian Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Digital Development in partnership with leading high-tech companies.

In Omsk, the event will be part of Rosatom’s “Quantum Week,” combining popular science and professional lectures, hands-on workshops, lab tours, and interactive simulators. The focus will be quantum computing and “materials of the future”—from the principles of quantum modeling to real-world applications in energy, medicine, and space technologies.

Program Highlights

The day will open with a documentary film on quantum technologies, followed by lectures from Rosatom scientists and experts from the Russian Quantum Center.

Students will complete simple assignments on Digital Lesson simulators: simulating quantum algorithms, learning the basics of quantum cryptography, and running virtual experiments with materials designed using quantum computing. The program ends with a “quantum quiz” to reinforce knowledge in a game-like format. These exercises show how digital tools shorten the path from idea to finished material or prototype.

Last year, the Omsk region ranked among the top ten participants in the nationwide Digital Lesson on quantum technologies. Our region consistently leads in the Digital Lesson and Digital Literacy projects supported by the Digital Economy initiative. The technology block focuses on how quantum computing accelerates the search for new alloys and composites, models material properties at the atomic level, and optimizes additive manufacturing processes.

To maximize understanding, new concepts will be introduced through simple examples—from a virtual “recipe selection” exercise to demonstrations of how simulations cut years off testing cycles. For university students and faculty, deeper workshops with laboratory practice will be offered.

Why Omsk Is the Right Place to Start

The Omsk region is positioning itself as a hub for quantum ecosystem development. In July 2025, Rosatom Quantum Technologies signed a cooperation agreement with the regional Ministry of Education covering education, R&D, and industrial deployment of new solutions.

The region hosts universities and research schools ready to welcome students and engage in applied projects, while the OM FEST digital technology festival has provided a platform for scaling up educational initiatives.

From Lessons to Career Paths

The Digital Lesson is designed as an entry point into a chain of educational and professional practices. Rosatom and local authorities plan to retrain physics teachers, open specialized departments, and support internships for students—all to create a local talent pool for quantum projects and materials science.

Pilot lessons across other regions have already shown an increase in student interest in engineering and applied physics. Omsk officials hope to convert that interest into concrete applications for study and work.
