Russian AI Passes Dentistry Exam, Advances Toward Clinical Use

Sber's GigaChat clears its seventh major medical test—this time in dentistry—paving the way for AI-assisted diagnostics and patient care.

GigaChat, an AI model developed by Sber, has successfully passed the final dentistry exam at Voronezh State Medical University, one of Russia’s top medical schools. The exam was administered by a standard academic commission under the same criteria used for evaluating human medical students.

The test assessed GigaChat’s knowledge across a range of dental disciplines, including surgery, orthopedics, and therapeutic dentistry. Its high performance was made possible by additional training on a specialized dental dataset.

With this success, GigaChat moves one step closer to being accredited as a virtual assistant for dental professionals. The AI is expected to assist in clinical workflows and may also offer consumer-level guidance on oral health and hygiene.

Dentistry is just one of several medical fields the system has tackled. GigaChat has also demonstrated proficiency in general medicine, gastroenterology, cardiology, neurology, pediatrics, and more.
