Russian Banks Introduce Video Call-Based Digital ID Verification

Banks in Russia are rolling out video-based ID verification to speed up account recovery and tighten protection against fraud
Russian banks are introducing a new digital identification service that uses video calls to verify customers remotely. Alfa-Bank is among the first to implement the technology, allowing clients to unblock cards or restore online banking access without having to visit a physical branch. All it takes is a call or chat through the mobile app. A bank representative will request digital copies of the necessary documents and schedule a video verification session to confirm the client's identity.
The process not only saves time, but it’s also a lifeline for customers who can’t make it to a branch. According to Nino Kodua, Alfa-Bank’s Chief Operating Officer, Automating processes like ID verification not only makes life easier for our clients, but also strengthens fraud protection through multi-step validation.
Industry experts say the move aligns with global trends in digital banking and the increasing emphasis on anti-fraud measures. Video-based identity verification is setting a new security benchmark for Russia’s financial sector.
