Russian Mining Company Replaces Foreign Software with Domestic Solutions

A flagship enterprise in Russia’s mining sector is transitioning to locally developed software, aiming to deploy domestically controlled machinery by the end of 2025.
The Russian mining company Apatit based in the Murmansk region is phasing out foreign-made software in favor of domestic alternatives for controlling its industrial equipment. The shift was announced by Anton Yarunin, head of production at Apatit’s Kirov branch, during an interview with Russia 24.
Apatit is a key player in Russia’s extractive industry and supplies apatite concentrate to fertilizer production facilities across the country and exporting to over 100 countries worldwide.
According to Yarunin, machinery powered by the new Russian software is expected to be operational by late 2025. The software is being developed in collaboration with a local IT firm. The initial goal is to transition two remote drilling machines to the new system by the end of this year.
This move comes as Russia resumes funding for specialized centers focused on import substitution in software development.
