Russian Firefighting Robots to Protect Nuclear Power Plants in Armenia

Russian engineers have developed firefighting robots designed to safeguard nuclear facilities. The systems, already in use across Russia, may soon be deployed in Armenia.

The Russian Engineering Center for Firefighting Robotics, known as EFER, has created robotic systems capable of extinguishing fires, including those at nuclear power plants. The technology is already certified and successfully operates at dozens of facilities in Russia, including in the oil and gas sector. Now the developer is ready to offer its solutions to Armenia, particularly to enhance safety at nuclear power plants, according to Sputnik Armenia.

The robots can detect fires at an early stage and precisely deliver water or foam to prevent flames from spreading. They also shield building structures from overheating, which is crucial for industrial facilities. In May, a mobile version of the system successfully passed tests at an Emergency Ministry training ground in Orenburg.

Special emphasis is placed on nuclear safety: the project was developed with support from Rosatom and ranked among the top five of the corporation’s innovative solutions. The technology is already being integrated into design documentation for new nuclear power plants.

To guard against cyberattacks, the robots operate on a closed corporate network without internet access.

“We are ready to offer our solutions to Armenia, just as we have already done in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan,” said Sergey Nemchinov, the center’s general director.
