Rostelecom switches to Russian Broadband Access Servers
Russian telecom giant Rostelecom has begun migrating its broadband access infrastructure to domestically produced BRAS servers, marking a major shift toward technological sovereignty and long‑term network resilience.

New Stage of Technology Substitution
Russian operators continue integrating domestic hardware to secure infrastructure against external risks. Rostelecom has begun transitioning to Russian‑made Broadband Remote Access Servers (BRAS) from EcoRouter, supported by RTK‑Service.
The equipment performs subscriber authentication, authorization, accounting, and traffic switching across backbone networks. Deployment of BRAS built on IP/MPLS routers strengthens one of the most complex elements of modern telecom infrastructure. Pilot deployments took place in seven cities: Abakan, Kazan, Kostroma, Kurgan, Pskov, Khabarovsk, and Elista.

Pre‑Launch Testing
Before pilot operations, the equipment underwent a full series of laboratory tests, validating integration with various billing and monitoring systems. According to the engineering teams, the BRAS units demonstrated stable performance across all test scenarios.
Alexander Kastrykin, Deputy CEO for Technical Infrastructure at RTK‑Service, noted that the companies acted as co‑developers—refining both hardware and software from lab testing to live network integration.
Nationwide Expansion
If the equipment proves reliable under commercial load, the project will scale across all federal districts. EcoRouter’s solutions may also be used by other Russian operators and in corporate networks, expanding deployment opportunities.
Trusted Partners
EcoRouter has over ten years of experience producing carrier‑grade network equipment and holds required compliance and safety certifications.
RTK‑Service has a strong track record as well, including a 2025 modernization of MegaFon’s DWDM network in Krasnodar Territory, enabling the operator to expand services without leasing optical fibers. The company also operates one of Russia’s largest testing laboratories for telecom and IT equipment.

Strategic Market Impact
The rollout of domestic BRAS systems is central to Russia’s telecom technology substitution program. The experience gained may later support international deployments, improving confidence in Russian telecom solutions abroad.
Rostelecom has launched pilot deployments of Russian‑made broadband remote access servers developed by EcoRouter. The equipment handles authentication, authorization, accounting, and traffic switching across the operator’s IP/MPLS backbone. Seven cities participated in the pilot rollout: Abakan, Kazan, Kostroma, Kurgan, Pskov, Khabarovsk, and Elista.

Testing and Integration
Before deployment, the servers completed full laboratory testing to validate compatibility with billing and monitoring systems. According to RTK‑Service, which partners on the project, the companies jointly refined and adapted hardware and software to meet Rostelecom’s reliability standards.
National Expansion Ahead
If the equipment demonstrates stable performance under real‑world loads, Rostelecom plans a nationwide rollout. The technology may also be adopted by regional providers and enterprises seeking network independence.
