Russia Launches Electric Car Sharing Program in Kaliningrad
Locally made electric vehicles powered by Autotor engines mark the next step in the region’s push toward sustainable transport.
Kaliningrad has officially launched its first electric car sharing service, featuring “Amberauto A5” vehicles produced by the city’s Autotor plant, according to Elena Orlova, deputy minister for infrastructure development of the Kaliningrad Region. The program began operating on October 28 and represents a major milestone in Russia’s transition to eco-friendly urban mobility.
The project is being developed in partnership with Yandex.Drive and the König-Rent company, following the rollout of a regional electric charging network across Kaliningrad and nearby coastal cities.
Expanding the Fleet
The front-wheel-drive Amberauto A5 features a range of up to 520 kilometers and 160 horsepower, making it well suited for both city and regional travel. Each car is equipped with Yandex Navigator and can be rented for hours or days through the car-sharing app.
By spring 2026, the fleet is expected to grow to 100 electric vehicles, as demand for sustainable mobility continues to rise.
The launch builds on the success of Kaliningrad’s first locally produced gasoline car-sharing program, introduced in the summer of 2025, and underscores the region’s ambition to become a leader in Russia’s emerging electric vehicle ecosystem.
