Russia Unveils AI-Powered System for Early Skin Cancer Detection

A new diagnostic complex called “Nevuskan” can identify melanoma at its earliest stages with remarkable precision — and at a fraction of the cost of Western systems.

Russia has developed its first AI-based hardware-software complex for early skin cancer detection. The Nevuskan system can identify melanoma at stages I–II with 92% accuracy, without the need for surgical procedures. The innovation strengthens Russia’s technological sovereignty while contributing to the global fight against cancer by providing fast and accurate screening for patients.

The complex was unveiled at the Bioprom International Forum in Gelendzhik, reports TASS. Four pilot units are already being used in Moscow’s medical facilities, and regional hospitals across Russia have expressed strong interest in adopting the technology.

In terms of performance, the Russian system matches comparable developments from the U.S. and Germany, but its main advantage lies in affordability. While American devices can cost up to 28 million rubles (approximately $335,000), the Nevuskan will be priced around 8 million rubles (approximately $95,800) — a strategy that could make advanced cancer diagnostics far more accessible.

Mass production of the complex is expected to begin soon.
