Russia Expands Mobile and Internet Access in Remote Villages

New telecommunications infrastructure is being deployed in rural Ossetia to bridge the digital divide as part of a national government program.
Two rural villages in North Ossetia—Stur-Digor and Kusovo—are set to receive mobile phone coverage and high-speed internet as part of Russia’s 'Bridging the Digital Divide' initiative under the national 'Data Economy' project, according to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
North Ossetian leader Sergey Menyaylo confirmed that work is already underway. Engineers have begun designing and constructing base stations in both locations.
These villages were selected through a public vote conducted on the government services portal Gosuslugi, highlighting the role of community input in digital infrastructure planning.
Menyaylo also noted that, over the past two years, the program has brought modern telecom infrastructure to other settlements, including Dzinaga, Gornaya Saniba, Makhchesk, and the Tel'mana settlement.
