Russia Launches Digital Platform for Free Legal Aid
A new online service on the Gosuslugi state portal now allows citizens to access free legal assistance from government lawyers anywhere in the country.

Russia has launched a new digital service called “Free Legal Aid” on its unified e-government portal, Gosuslugi. The platform is part of the federal program “Government for the People,” which aims to simplify citizens’ access to essential state services.
The service is designed for citizens eligible for free legal support, including orphans, pensioners, and low-income families. It helps users resolve legal issues related to child welfare, housing subsidies, pensions, and other social matters. To get started, users can select the service from the “Life Situations” section of the portal and describe their issue. The system automatically generates an application using data from state information databases, eliminating the need to repeatedly fill out the same forms.
After submission, state legal bureaus review each case. Qualified lawyers provide consultations, prepare necessary documents, and represent clients in court if needed.
The service also allows users to book in-person appointments at the nearest state legal bureau in any Russian region, choosing a convenient time slot for their visit.
Officials say the new system minimizes the risk of fraud by offering a verified and secure channel for obtaining legal support. The digital format ensures access to qualified assistance regardless of location.
