Moscow Zoo Begins Real-Time Animal Tracking With AI
The pilot project allows visitors to see where selected animals are located and what they are doing in real time.

The system currently covers five animals: giant pandas Zhui, Dindin, and Katyusha, as well as the leopard Mizer and the puma Gabriel. Screens installed near each enclosure display whether the animal is indoors or outside, along with its current activity. If an animal is not immediately visible, the system prompts visitors to look more carefully. The displays also provide educational information and details about upcoming events.
An information kiosk on the zoo's historic grounds offers descriptions of the behavioral patterns of the animals participating in the project, helping visitors plan their route based on activity levels.
The zoo plans to expand the number of animal behavior models monitored by the system in the near future. The project is ultimately expected to cover the entire zoo and be integrated into the institution's interactive map and website.
