Russia Expands Smart AI-Powered Surveillance Across Cities
Artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded in Russian urban infrastructure, with smart cameras monitoring safety, traffic, and critical facilities.

In the Tyumen region, more than 10% of the city’s surveillance cameras are now connected to AI-powered analytics modules. Out of 6,000 cameras operating in the region, 784 have been upgraded with artificial intelligence.
This shift is part of a broader national strategy. Intelligent surveillance systems are already deployed in 24 cities across Russia. The “smart” cameras don’t just watch over public safety—they also help optimize traffic flow by analyzing road congestion. Critical infrastructure facilities receive special protection, with cameras automatically detecting violations, fires, and suspicious objects, and sending alerts to law enforcement and monitoring centers.
The backbone of this rollout is the federal Safe City platform, a hardware-and-software complex that unites thousands of cameras nationwide.
