Russian Nickel Giant Rolls Out Digital Quality Tag to Boost Traceability

Kola Mining and Metallurgical Company, a Norilsk Nickel subsidiary, now marks its products with QR codes, unlocking full traceability from factory to shipment. The digital label aims to eliminate errors and strengthen trust across global markets.
Russia’s Kola Mining and Metallurgical Company (Kola MMC), a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel, has launched a 'Digital Quality Tag' system, giving each product batch a scannable QR code. These codes reveal detailed metadata—product name, weight, production method, factory address, and batch number—bringing a new level of transparency to industrial nickel output.
Soon, the QR data will include comprehensive environmental information, such as carbon footprint metrics and behind-the-scenes videos from production sites. This feature is being added not just for domestic clients but for international partners as well, as the tags will be embedded in export-bound goods. According to the company, the system minimizes human error, enhances traceability at every stage of the supply chain, and reduces the need for manual input.
Kola MMC continues to embrace digital transformation across its operations. This year, it became the first Norilsk Nickel division to deploy a machine learning cluster to monitor and optimize equipment performance.
