Russia’s Luna Scanner AI Spots Fights, Fire, and Weapons in Public Spaces

Developed within the MTS tech ecosystem, the Luna Scanner uses neural networks to detect threats in crowded areas with impressive accuracy. It’s now being tested in one of Moscow’s busiest concert venues.

Russian tech firms under telecom giant MTS have introduced a new public safety tool called Luna Scanner. Powered by artificial intelligence, the system scans real-time video feeds in crowded venues to detect fights, fires, weapons, and intrusions into restricted zones.

Currently undergoing testing at the MTS Live Hall concert venue in Moscow, the system is connected to more than 50 surveillance cameras. Future updates will add capabilities such as identifying unattended objects, unconscious individuals, and signs of panic in crowds.

Luna Scanner runs on deep neural networks designed to reduce false positives. During trials, it reached an 88.7% accuracy rate for detecting physical altercations and 83.6% for identifying weapons. Alerts are sent directly to on-site security teams, and all footage is securely stored on protected servers.

The system can also be integrated with external law enforcement platforms, such as those of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard, but only at the client’s request. MTS says it is in talks with both domestic and international partners to expand deployment.

Luna Scanner is designed for use in shopping malls, stadiums, concert halls, and citywide surveillance networks, offering a comprehensive set of threat detection tools that’s unique on the Russian market.
