Russia’s Telecom Giants Double Down on AI and IoT

Major Russian mobile operators are investing heavily in artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to modernize infrastructure and personalize services.

Russia’s leading telecom providers are ramping up investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), aiming to boost service quality, automate network management, and offer more customized digital experiences.

According to Inessa Galaktionova, CEO of MTS, the company plans to allocate up to 10 percent of its annual operating income (OIBDA) to AI and IoT R&D. A top priority is the deployment of real-time AI to dynamically optimize network performance. This technology enables networks to adapt to demand, prevent outages, and enhance user satisfaction, as reported by RBC.

Other telecom players in Russia are rolling out similar initiatives. Advanced tech is expected to not only increase connection speed and reliability but also unlock applications in smart cities, telemedicine, and industrial IoT.

Experts say long-term innovation success hinges on both investment and human capital. To address this, telecom companies are partnering with universities and research institutions to cultivate a pipeline of skilled professionals.

For Russia’s telecom sector, the move toward AI and IoT isn’t just hype—it’s a strategic transformation set to reshape communication standards and digital services for years to come.
