Russia’s Postal Giant Reinvents Itself Through Digital Transformation

Once a traditional mail carrier, Russian Post has become one of the world’s largest logistics and digital communication networks — powered by homegrown software and artificial intelligence.

In just a few years, Russian Post has undergone a sweeping digital transformation, turning from a state-run postal service into a massive tech-driven logistics, e-commerce, and financial ecosystem. Today, more than 95% of its digital systems run on Russian-made software, and its dedicated tech subsidiary, PochtaTech, continues to develop in-house solutions that drive innovation across the company’s vast operations.

According to Dmitry Chudinov, Russian Post’s Chief Digital Transformation Officer, about one-third of all sales now occur online, while electronic and hybrid mail services — complete with online payment options — account for nearly half of the company’s total business. The company’s unified digital platform connects transport, warehousing, and sorting centers, streamlining the flow of millions of parcels across the country.

A Cybersecurity Testing Ground

In 2024, Russian Post ramped up its cyber defense initiatives, partnering with leading domestic firms Solar Group, Positive Technologies, and Kaspersky Lab. Together, they are implementing 66 cybersecurity projects built on the open XDR (Extended Detection and Response) model.

The scale of Russian Post’s infrastructure — 38,000 branches, three data centers, 28 critical IT facilities, 83 regional offices, and nine logistics hubs — makes it one of the largest real-world platforms for testing cybersecurity resilience in Russia.

Tech Brings Tangible Growth

The shift to digital systems has delivered measurable results. The company reports that e-commerce revenue rose by 3 billion rubles in 2024, while labor productivity is expected to grow by over 50% by the end of 2025 compared to 2023. At the same time, Russian Post has successfully reduced its net debt and increased operational profits — proof that even a century-old institution can thrive through technological reinvention.
